Our Flat friends visit New South Wales, Australia

Flat Isabella has arrived in New South Wales. She was the first to arrive in Australia. She is recovering from the long flight.
The capital of New South Wales is Sydney, home to the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. New South Wales has a lot of outback towns as well.

Felicity says G'Day and sent this poster for us to share:

Flat Ana arrived in Sydney and is travelling to Brisbane.
Flat Ana got a bit lost and ended up with Peter and Kerry. They are on their way to Brisbane and are taking Flat Ana on holidays with them. How exciting for Flat Ana. Flat Ana gets to visit Sydney AND Brisbane - two capital cities of Australia. Do you know which states they are the capitals of?

Friday, October 10th:
Hi, just to let you know Ana has had quite an adventure so far, we stayed overnight at the Plantation Motel at Tyndale, Northern Nsw. My family came from around this area and can trace back several generations.  We passed by Maclean through sugar fields before heading to Byron Bay lighthouse, the most easterly point of Australia.
We have been staying with our daughter and her family at Enoggera and attended the inaugural Ch9 telethon for the new Lady Cilento Children's hospital. Today we visited the new hospital and took Ana along. We will see what other sites we are visiting before we return to Sydney.
As an aside , Our little grandson had been in and out of hospital for all of his 2.5 years, but is doing well since his kidney transplant last Christmas and is a bit of a celebrity at fundraisers etc and was one of the special guests at the telethon.
Looking forward to sharing more of her adventures with you.
Cheers Kerry

Wednesday October 8

Peter and Kerry took me on a car trip to Brisbane to meet Jack, their grandson. We took 2 days to travel to Brisbane and overnight  we stayed at Plantation Motel, Tyndale in northern New South Wales.

Thursday October 9
We are now in the area called the “Northern Rivers” of New South Wales. We passed MacLean (Scottish town) turnoff and headed up the Pacific Highway through sugar fields.

We stopped by the Richmond River at a little town called Woodburn before going past a sugar processing plant at Broadwater.

We went past the Macadamia Castle and banana plantations, stopping at a lookout to view the hinterland and the coast before heading down to Byron Bay.

We visited the Byron Bay lighthouse before continuing on to Brisbane.
Cape Byron is Australia's most easterly point, 153° 39´ east, located on the north coast of New South Wales. With its numerous beaches, unspoilt hinterland, and relaxed lifestyle, Byron Bay is a popular tourist destination.
With average summer temperatures of 21C - 28C, and average winter temperatures of 15C - 21C, both locals and visitors are able to enjoy plenty of outdoor activities including the many festivals throughout the year.
I met Peter and Kerry’s grandson Jack and his parents Anita and Ross. They live in a suburb called Enoggera.

Friday October 10
This morning, I played with some of Jack’s toys, and In the afternoon we took a drive to an Aquaponics semi-rural property. Murray grows lots of his food in tubs. He has lots of fish in tanks and uses the water from tanks to feed the plants. He then recycles the water back into the fish tanks.

Saturday October 11

In the morning we went to the local shopping centre to see some  “superheroes” raising money for the Telethon. We met Supergirl, the Hulk, and lots of other superheroes.

This was a big day for Jack as we were all to attend the inaugural Ch9 telethon for the new Lady Cilento’s Children’s hospital in the evening.

He was one of the special guests and an ambassador for the Children’s Health Foundation. We met lots of interesting people.

Sunday October 12

We were up early today to go for a tour of the new hospital. It is not open yet, so I was able to try out the new beds.

Afterwards we went to Southbank Recreational area to have a splash in one of the pools they have there. It is beside the Brisbane river and you can see boats and ferries going up and down the river.

Monday October 13

It is quite warm in Brisbane, Jack was tired from such a busy weekend. We stayed at home in the morning and I played with some of Jack’s toys.
In the afternoon we went to bookstore where I found a copy of Flat Stanley and his Canadian adventure. Just have to bring it home with me.

Tuesday October 14

We had a fun time in Brisbane, but it is time to go back to Sydney. We will be stopping in Kempsey about half way to Sydney, before going to a fishery tomorrow to buy fish for the aquaponics system Peter is setting up in the backyard.

I will soon be coming home and bringing a few mementoes with me.
